Weir ‘sick of speculation’

While the Southern Star awaits official comment from Channel 9, US figure skating champion Johnny Weir has dismissed comments made by Winter Olympic commentators Eddie McGuire and Mick Molloy this week.

Weir’s agent Tara Modlin told www.crikey.com that Weir was more concerned with his attempt to win Olympic gold than the opinion of “two gentlemen from Australia”.

“Johnny doesn’t appreciate comments like that. He will be going for gold tonight and doesn’t really care what two gentlemen from Australia think,” Modlin told Crikey.

“He’s focusing right now on his free skating and his triple axels.

“They clearly have some sort of affection towards his outfit. Johnny’s very knowledgeable about fashion, his costume shows his personality, and that’s what the costumes are meant to do out on the ice.”

Modlin also told the website that Weir was sick of the constant media speculation over his sexuality: “…people don’t ask Christian Aguilera, if she’s gay or straight so why are they talking about Johnny?”

SSO has made multiple attempts to seek comment from Channel 9, but without success.
