New campaign for positive mental health

A new mental health campaign targeting the LGBTI community in Queensland has been released by Healthy Communities.

InsideOUT is a series of eight advertisements encouraging positive mental health and wellbeing within the community.

Numerous studies have shown that LGBT people are generally more likely to suffer from poor mental health. Depression and anxiety as a result of discrimination and homophobia are common within the community.

The campaign will use humour and eye-catching imagery to share the stories and experiences of several community members who have battled depression and anxiety related to homophobia, discrimination, isolation and fear.

“The campaign focuses on the strengths of the community by supporting LGBT people to recognise that mental health is important, identify when their mental health isn’t going so well, and providing some practical skills and strategies that can be used to improve their wellbeing,” campaign developer Sally Morris said.
