New CEO for Positive Life

Positive Life NSW Inc today announced the appointment of former PLWHA Victoria executive officer Sonny Williams (pictured) as its new CEO.

Williams began work in the HIV sector at ACON before joining People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) Victoria Inc in May 2005.

During his time at PLWHA, he saw the organisation through a substantial increase in funding while raising its profile and attracting a broader range of volunteers and sponsorship.

“The relationship between Positive Life NSW and ACON is strong, and an important part of the response to HIV in NSW. We welcome Sonny’s appointment and look forward to building on our relationship to ensure that the voice of people living with HIV continues to be heard,” ACON president Mark Orr said.

Positive Life president Malcolm Leech also praised the new appointment.

“[Williams] has demonstrated an ability to work in partnership with many communities and with the HIV communities in particular,” he said.

“As the current vice president of the National Association of People Living with HIV/AIDS, Williams has a broad national perspective of the HIV sector and the opportunities for Positive Life NSW to achieve its aims.”

Since starting in 1988, Positive Life NSW — a small, professional community organisation governed by people with HIV — has been working to promote the rights, health and wellbeing of people with HIV, their partners and communities in NSW. Its vision is to ensure that people with HIV have the opportunity to maintain the best standards of health and quality of life.
