New site to send message on parenting

The Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group (TGLRG) has launched a website to allow supporters of parenting equality to make their views known to state legislators.

Equality Tasmania lets people send a letter to Tasmania’s Upper House members to advocate for changes to the current laws.

Last month, state Liberals tried unsuccessfully to exclude same-sex couples from a Government bill decriminalising and recognising altruistic surrogacy arrangements.

TGLRG spokesman Rodney Croome (pictured) said he fears a similar move may occur in the Upper House and is asking supporters of equality to use the new website — www.equalitytasmania.org — to send a message to MPs.

“The Australian Christian Lobby has organised a large-scale letter-writing campaign but I am confident the voices of those who support equality will send our Upper House an even stronger message,” Croome said.

“In the five days since the site went live, 1700 letters have been sent by a wide variety of people across Tasmania.”

The Tasmanian Upper House is expected to vote on the surrogacy bill this month.
