Outgames prep heats up

Five cities in Australia and New Zealand will hold events to mark the launch of online registrations for next year’s 2nd AsiaPacific Outgames.
June 12 marks the opening of online registrations, which will give competitors the chance to sign up for any of the 16 sports or for the human rights conference at the games, to be held in Wellington, New Zealand in March 2011.
Events in Melbourne, Brisbane, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch will provide information for interested parties, and will give attendees the chance to win goodies such as free tickets to the massive Outgames final night party.
International interest in the event is building across the Asia Pacific region. A significant number of swimmers from Sydney club Wett Ones have indicated they’re keen to compete, and Melbourne swim club the Glamourheads will be celebrating their 10th anniversary at the Outgames.
“Further afield, we are hearing from individuals and sports teams in places as far apart as Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Samoa,” Outgames co-chair David Hindley said.
The event is expected to attract more than 1000 participants and another 1000 supporters from New Zealand, Australia, Asia, and the Pacific Islands.
