Protests, petitions follow QAHC decision

An emergency rally will be held in Brisbane next week in a bid to counter efforts to repeal Queensland’s civil union scheme and pull funds from the state’s LGBT health organisation, Healthy Communities.

Equal Love have organised the protest against the controversial moves by the new state government, the latest of which was announced yesterday.

Protesters will meet at Brisbane’s King George Square next Wednesday, May 30 from 5pm before marching on Parliament House at 6pm, where they’ll hear from same-sex couples, legal experts and other guest speakers.

A Change.org petition has also been set up in an effort to protect the future of Healthy Communities. It’s already received over 1600 signatories since launching yesterday.

You can sign the petition here.

  1. What a manmade disaster for Queensland, allowing a homophobic Minister, who is repealing Civil Unions, racing up to couples spitting “Fuck off, give it back to me”, who now says he knows what is best for GLBTI people, rather than GLBTI people.
