Radiothon wraps up

JOY 94.9 has completed its annual radiothon, signing up 1100 new members and renewals and raising more than $115,000 in donations.

“We are tracking very well financially and the feeling around the station and on air is invigorating,” JOY president David McCarthy said. “The station is delivering great radio not just by community radio standards but we can show more than a few commercial stations just what entertaining, informative and engaging radio is all about.”

General manager Danae Gibson also announced her resignation at the radiothon, having accepted the position of general manager at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival. Gibson joined JOY 18 months ago. McCarthy said she had demonstrated outstanding leadership, professionalism, humour, engagement and dedication in what has been a challenging time for JOY.

“The fine work Danae has done in improving our administration, financial reporting, community engagement and relationships has been a significant factor in our success,” he said.

“We would also like to acknowledge the support her partner Zoe has given Danae and also to JOY 94.9.”

The JOY board will appoint an acting general manager while it finds a permanent replacement. It will also advance the appointment of a volunteer manager.
