Safe sets for safe sex

Freezone volleyball last weekend took to the streets of Adelaide to spread the message of safe sex and healthy lifestyles at the annual Adelaide Spikers Feast Volleyball Tournament.

Held as part of Adelaide’s Feast Festival, the volleyball tournament attracted 18 teams from Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney for a friendly on-court battle.

Representing Sydney were two teams from Freezone volleyball, traveling under the moniker of the Safe Sets ACON team. Both teams did their teammates and sponsors proud by taking out the title in the first division and coming runners-up in the second division following some gruelling matches against major rivals from Melbourne.

I was really happy with how it went. The competition was stiff and it was a very tough fight to get our way through to the finals, said Freezone captain Pejay Clark.

But we have been the defending champions for two years running and I can guarantee we’ll be back next year to do it again.

In between matches Freezone team members took time out from the cutthroat competition to do their part to spread word about their sponsors ACON and Sydney Star Observer.

Adorned in their new ACON and SSO-sponsored uniforms, the girls and boys took to the streets to hand out condoms and tell Adelaideans about the work being done in NSW to promote GLBT sport.
It was really good to walk around in the uniforms with Safe Sets ACON and Sydney Star Observer written on them, Clark said.

We did our best to promote both our sponsors by walking around and telling people to check out their websites and by handing out condoms as well.

We’re very grateful to our sponsors so we thought it was time to do our part, and for people at the tournament, we took lots of photos so people will have an opportunity to see them once we can get them onto the website, so hopefully that will do something to attract people to the website and see what our sponsors have been doing.
