Seeking all soccer players

Following on from a successful season launch last Tuesday the Rangers are looking for new members to become a part of its ever-expanding soccer club.

An official registration day for prospective new members will be held on January 31, though a Rangers spokesman, Gavin Ward, said it is advisable for people to get in touch with the club prior to the date.

We need to know before that date of anyone who wants to play in the winter competition, Ward told Sydney Star Observer.

We’ve probably already got too many people, but if we do have too many then we can look at putting in a second team or taking over another team and merging with them.

So we are still looking for people and we do want to bolster the numbers.

Players over 35 years of age are especially wanted as the club tries to create a new team to play at a higher competition level.

After reaching the finals in last year’s competition, 2009 is shaping up to be a challenge as the club attempts to not only break that record, but to also reach new levels playing in a higher division.

That means the open call isn’t for people wanting to learn how to play the game.

If they want to play comp, it’s got to be someone who’s played soccer before. This isn’t for newbies, this is for people who may have played soccer in the past but might have had to leave their team -” especially because of their sexuality, Ward said.

Really, that’s what we’re there for. We know people who have played for a long time who have had to leave their team, or don’t feel welcome in their own club, can come back and keep playing soccer.

We managed to come runner-up in the grand final last year, so we’re looking to do even better, though we are going up a couple of divisions, so this year will be more of a challenge.
