Serving one up to the opposition

Freezone’s annual spring volleyball tournament will take place on Saturday 30 August at the Indoor Sports Centre at Olympic Park.

Ten teams have already signed up for the competition, but there is room for at least another two squads to ensure the tournament is at peak capacity.

This will be an action-packed event, with non-stop games, Freezone president Wally Salinger said.

Freezone conducts two annual tournaments, as well as playing in Melbourne and Adelaide events with the Melbourne Spikers and the Adelaide Spikers.

This will be a great chance to see our State league teams mixed into a more social setting which everyone can enjoy.

The competition kicks off at 9am and finals will be held in the concluding hours of the day.

The tournament is also in need of a pool of additional players who may not play regularly to fill in as subs, or people who just want to be a part of the cheer squad.

To be a cheerleader you have to be there on time, be outrageously dressed with a focus on glitter and pom-poms, and begin your cheering choreography as the day begins -” loud is good, Salinger said.

If you are not in a team we will endeavour to place you in one. There are always gaps and extras required on the day.

There will also be a celebratory party taking place at Centennial Park on Sunday 31 August.

Cost is $30 per player. For more details call Wally on 8006 3307 or email [email protected].

Bring a friend

Freezone Volleyball is on the lookout for new members. The group, sponsored by Sydney Star Observer and ACON, is having a Bring a Friend Day on 24 August from 3pm to 6pm. The social get-together will be held at the Sydney Boys High gym on Cleveland St at Moore Park. Details: [email protected].

  1. This sounds like a great event to drag ones butt along to for a gander at the high flying, loud squealing Freezoners and friends from interstate in action.

    Love the action,

See them there. Thanks for the reminder SSO!
