Signatures needed for gay marriage

Victorians who want gay marriage in the state are being urged to pitch in by starting petitions lobbying the state government for change. Australian Marriage Equality Victorian convenor Carl Katter (pictured) is calling on marriage equality supporters to chip in and collect some signatures for a petition for gay marriage.

Katter and his team will take the petitions to the state Parliament before June to lobby MPs – Coalition MPs in particular.

While there is no total figure for signatures desired, Katter said they needed “as many as possible”.

“Our first initiative is a marriage equality petition to state parliament and we’re planning for much more to come,” Katter said.

“We will focus on grassroots organising because that seems to have been the key to the success of marriage equality in four states during the recent US election.”
