Chargers and Laird split

Gay rugby club the Melbourne Chargers and its major sponsor, the Laird Hotel, will amicably wrap up their three-year relationship at the end of the year.

The Laird Hotel had partnered with the club since its inception in 2010 and hosted numerous events of support including regular events and major fundraisers such as Surf vs Turf and Wrestle-A-Rugger.

The last Chargers event was held on Sunday, November 18 for the Laird Hotel’s Sunday Social barbeque.

Melbourne Chargers president Sam Minter thanked the pub for its three years of support.

Laird Hotel co-owner Brett Lasham said the Laird would focus on maintaining its strong ties with the leather and bear communities.

“It’s been great to see the Chargers grow from a bunch of very keen like-minded guys at the pub in the successful and professional team they are today,” he said.

The Chargers 2012 awards night and end of season celebration was held at Sircuit Bar in Collingwood on October 8.
