Gay rugby team reforms

The Brisbane Hustlers, a gay and inclusive rugby union team, will reform in 2012 with the first open day for interested players and supporters to be held on Sunday, June 24.

The Hustlers will hold a BBQ at 2.30pm in New Farm Park. They encourage people interested in playing rugby (beginners and advanced, young and old) or looking to be involved in any capacity to come and learn about the team.

They’ll also play a game of touch football with the Wolfies touch team from 4.30pm on the same day.

The Hustlers originally formed in 2004 and the team played in a suburban Brisbane rugby competition in 2004 and 2005. They also played the Sydney Convicts in the inaugural Purchas Cup match (an annual competition the Sydney Convicts and the Melbourne Chargers rugby teams have since fiercely fought).

After a hiatus of seven years, the Hustlers are back and aim to compete in the Purchas Cup against the Sydney Convicts and Melbourne Chargers in late 2012, play in a suburban Brisbane rugby competition in 2013, and play in the Bingham Cup, the world cup of gay and inclusive rugby teams, in 2013.

Interested people can contact Aaron Fleming on 0412 639 636 or email at [email protected] and come to New Farm Park on June 24.
