STAR OF LOVE – CRYSTAL FIGHTERS
What an odd mix this is: traditional folk from the Basque region of Spain, fused with contemporary dance music. Somehow, the mysterious five-piece known as Crystal Fighters make it work. Songs like Xtatic Truth — named single of the month recently by Mixmag — or the Daft Punk-esque With You can be enjoyed as the uptempo dancefloor fillers they are, but listen closely and you’ll hear the unusual Spanish instruments not usually heard in popular music, from the txalapartas to the trikitixa melodeon.
