Stephen Gately’s sudden death shock

Openly gay Irish Boyzone star Stephen Gately has died after a night out on the island of Majorca. The 33-year-old pop star was holidaying on the island with his partner Andrew Cowles.

While full details of the singer’s death are yet to be released, local Majorca police have indicated that there were no signs of suspicious circumstances – it has been reported that Gately had “gone out for drinks, returned to his accommodation and fallen asleep, but never woke up.”

Gately made history in 1999 when he became the first member of a boy band to publicly come out as gay. He drifted from the spotlight after Boyzone split up in 2000, but enjoyed a return to the stage in recent years as the group reformed and again toured the world. His Boyzone band mates, including Ronan Keating, have rushed to the island of Majorca to comfort Gately’s partner.

  1. Will be sadly missed, for his unique voice, and recent times his talents in theatre.
One thing though- if there is any financial payout to his partner, at least they have the benefit in the U.K. of being able to record the maximum recognition they felt for their relationship, so there is no question of thier status of thier relationship. Not having to worry about being ignored or tossed aside in the question of was he really his partner, or just an f..buddy, will let him just be free to just focus on greiving.
