Strong sporting finish

It has been a year of improvements and growth for Team Sydney, with the group showing a profit in its 2007/08 Annual Report which was made available at last Saturday’s Annual General Meeting.

The organisation, which sustained a $5000 loss in the previous year, retained a profit of over $500 in a year which saw the formation of several new clubs, an exponentially grown Sports Day Out and a series of new sponsorship deals.

The coming year will target the growth of the member clubs of Team Sydney, secretary Wally Salinger reported.

Several useful contacts are being developed with interested parties and the Sports Council and Sydney Star Observer will continue to promote members and new clubs and events to our community.

Such growth, it is hoped, will be further encouraged through ongoing support from the City of Sydney and ACON, who this year came on board as official sponsors.

There is no news yet from our major application (to City of Sydney Council) to cover Sports Day Out 08 but they have been supplied with information for the event as they come.

A submission has been made to ACON for the funding that may be available to Team Sydney thanks to Wally Salinger’s efforts. Although this has been targeted at Sports Day Out 2008 it also would be used on various projects over the forthcoming year, the treasurer’s report from Geoffrey Radford and Mel Comerford read.

Four new Life Members were appointed at the AGM, in recognition of the contribution they have made to the organisation.

Former president Ian Davis, former Board director G J Lee, Wayne Morgan of the Frontrunners and former Team Sydney director and Dave Randall, also a former director, were all honoured for their services before Geoffrey Radford took an opportunity to look to the future.

2009 will be an important milestone for Team Sydney as we will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of incorporation. The club has been going longer than that but we will be taking March 2009 as a celebratory date.
