THE principal of an Islamic school in New South Wales claims the school has never had a gay student.

The principal, Ghazwa Khan spoke to The Australian for a piece looking into the curriculum of Islamic schools in the shadow of the Safe Schools debate.

“We’ve never had any child who says these things because they are being taught at home how to behave and know that this is not recommended,” Khan said.

Khan considers it to be a non-issue at the school.

“We’ve never had this issue at all, we’ve never had it,” she said.

“I think the students know their limit and they are taught at home what to say and what not to say.”

Al-Faisal College is one of New South Wales’ largest Islamic schools.

Khan’s remarks were reinforced by Keysar Trad, the president of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, who spoke about same-sex issues in relation to the religion.

“This is something that is clearly spelt out in the Koran and the hadith, that sex is only between a husband and a wife who are of the opposite gender and we have absolutely no mandate to change the grace of God,”  Trad said.

“At school, all kids are told that they should not practise sex until they are married.”

  1. @jamescormich/MDS/Andrea

Tiresome to read Left/Right comments from all three of you.

We need to support LGBTI moslem students – calling out the ignorance and bigotry of religious leaders includes Islamic figures.

  2. so why is the LGBTQI community not up in arms over this? oh thats right, we gay people only like to attack to christians…muslims are off limits!

  3. The left has lost it. Gays no longer feel ‘obligated’ to think ‘left’ or to vote ‘left.’ The left, in fact, is now part of the problem.

  4. How awful it would be to be brought up a Moslem. You would live a life of fear and secrecy if you realised you were gay. It would be so hard to escape the clutches of family and mosque! Islam is a hateful religion (like all religions.)

  5. How vague, James Cormich. What level of outrage, and from what outlets, would satisfy you? An example of “public outcry from the left” regarding another issue that you think was appropriately addressed will suffice.

    • @Andrea/MDS/James Cornich

Any words of comfort for the LGBTI in this oppressive environment?

Condemnation of naked bigotry from religious leaders quoted?

  6. The irony is it’s the left green voters from the inner city and other alternative lifestyle locales who support bringing in boatloads of these people. Yet they are the most homophobic culture on Earth.

    • MDS, are you suggesting that instead of fighting bad ideas with good ones, we attempt to end discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation by discriminating on the basis of religion or country of origin?
