Hobart, January 8, 2004. Gay rights activist Rodney Croome pictured at Salamanca Place in Hobart today. Mr Croome, who was last year appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for his role in shaping a more tolerant and inclusive Tasmania, was part of the nine-year fight to decriminalise homosexuality in Tasmania. It was finally decriminalised on May 1, 1997. The state has since introduced world-class anti-discrimination laws and, of course, the latest relationship reforms.
