Take a fresh look at us

Sydney Leather Pride has had it ups and downs since its inception in 1991. With the major focus for the organisation being its Inquisition dance party, starting out in what was (and is still lovingly) referred to as the Dome, growing from these initially modest but amazing events to take over the adjacent Horden Pavilion in subsequent years. With a strong membership and volunteer base the Association then attempted to take on the now vacant New Year’s Eve slot.

As many remember this event was a disaster financially for the SLPA. Rather than claiming bankruptcy the management at the time convinced the debtors to allow us it pay off these debts over time. Our debts are now effectively paid off.

For many in the community the only interaction with SLPA is Inquisition, but we also have a had a strong tradition of providing education, advocacy and representation for folk who are not just into leather but rubber, uniforms and pretty much any sort of kink / fetish scene.

A strong community group is only as solid as its support base. Like most of our peers in Sydney, membership and volunteering for groups has declined.

One of the ways in which SLPA rewards it’s volunteers is to allow them to earn credits to receiving a ticket to the Inquisition dance party. This year we will be exploring other ways in which to retain our volunteers and members.

So heading into 2011 SLPA is looking forward to presenting for you a big year of events and education.

SLPA and Dykes on Bikes would like to congratulate the winner of the inaugural Mz Leather held at the Oxford Hotel 11 Dec 2010. The competition was won by “Yes Mistress”. First runner up was Rose Creamer and second runner up was Titi Chartay. We look forward to seeing them around supporting the community.
