Have a social Saturday

The Gay and Lesbian Counselling Service (GLCS) will launch the new social group Social Saturdays on November 19, open to people of all identities under the LGBTIQ rainbow.

Social Saturdays is a monthly social group that aims to provide a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment for people to socialise outside of the bar/club/party scene. All genders, all backgrounds and all ages over 18 are welcome.

The group meets on the third Saturday of each month from 4.30-6.30pm at 43 Bedford St, Newtown (upstairs – no lift). Arrive by 5pm and ring the doorbell for entry. Snacks and soft drinks provided. Drug- and alcohol-free space.

A gold coin donation will help us cover group costs, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

Social Saturdays sessions are facilitated by trained volunteers from GLCS. Each group is based around a specific activity or event (different every month).

The launch session, Let the Games Begin!, will be a games circuit of fun and simple classic board games ranging from Scrabble to Hungry Hungry Hippos.

The December group (December 17) will be Christmas Cheer, with card and decoration making, simple holiday cooking, party games and other holiday fun.

Future activities will include short films, a cards tournament, Mardi Gras preparations and other events.

Future group activities will be posted on our website and Facebook page and promoted at each group. You can join our mailing list for updates by emailing [email protected]

GLCS also offers support groups: the Women’s Coming Out Group (second and fourth Thursday of the month 7-9pm) and Talking It Out Men’s Discussion Group (first and third Thursday of the month), and hosts SMART Drug and Alcohol Recovery (Mondays 6-7.30pm).

Telephone counselling and information is available daily 5.30-9.30pm on 02 8594 9596 or 1800 184 527 for regional callers. Lesbian Line is open Mondays 5.30–9.30pm on 02 8594 9595 or 1800 144 527.
