Equality: much to do

Equality: much to do

I love social media. But recently I received a death threat on Facebook.

The snob in me didn’t want to give him any more air time. He’s a former colleague I haven’t seen in yonks. A cyber-stalker and fulltime asshole, he’d been defrauding a company I worked for. I could have exposed him, but didn’t. He wanted me fired. I resigned. Essentially, it was unfair dismissal, but I called it a day and got a better job. End of.

Or so I thought.

Turns out a grudge has been harboured all this time. In his threats, he banged on about my painful demise in the sanctimonious tone for which he was renowned. Sadly enough, this poor excuse for a person keeps a ‘list’ of people and companies he doesn’t like, pilfering their details and tracing their movements. He was stalking Mimi McPherson and Bec Hewitt, among others.

Yup, nothing screwy about that.

I’ve been busy leading a life. Who knew I’d made his grubby little list? Turns out the guy has been carrying this venom for five years. Five years!

He popped up under a comment I made recently. Then came the abuse. I blocked him and it was promptly reported. His subversive vigilante ways are known to police. This is why I don’t use Facebook Places.

Cyber-bullying and cyber-stalking is a reality.

These sickos are out there, hunched over their keyboards, chasing shadows, hatching psychotic ploys to bring others down. Festering in hate and self-loathing, agonising over when ‘the enemy’ will kick in the front door.

Contrast this with an awesome start to Mardi Gras on the weekend, and it’s apparent we still have much to achieve. We should aspire to take the higher ground with derisory bigots. But it’s not always easy to be the bigger person when dealing with such small minds.

I’m sure my self-appointed nemesis will read this. He called me a small man, which is amusing considering his behaviour. I could care less for his childish insults. They reveal more about his flawed character than any perceived wrongdoing on my part.

I may be a fag, a poof, a small man. But this vile cockroach couldn’t hope to be half the human being.

Happy Mardi Gras!
