Tie a red ribbon

ACON Northern Rivers Office has recovered from the wonderfully queer weekend festivities at CoastOut and we are now busily preparing for AIDS Awareness Week, culminating in World AIDS Day on December 1.

This year’s local World AIDS Day fundraiser will be a themed screening of Hairspray starring John Travolta at the Italo Club, Barrow Lane North Lismore on Friday, 26 November. Doors open @ 6pm and the film begins at sunset, al fresco. Tickets are available at the door on the night or beforehand from ACON Northern Rivers. Entry is $12, concession $8 and a family ticket $30.

During AIDS Awareness week November 26 – December 1 be on the look out for our Red Ribbon sellers throughout the region. Specifically they will be in Lismore Square on Tuesday 30 November and on the streets on Wednesday 1 December. We are actively recruiting Red Ribbon sellers from our region; maybe you would like to sell a box of Red Ribbons at your workplace or in your town/village on World AIDS Day or you could donate two hours of your time and join one of our street selling crews. A candlelight vigil, to commemorate those who have died from AIDS and to celebrate those who continue to live with HIV will be held in Lismore from 7.30pm on Wednesday December 1. Location is still to be chosen but will be widely promoted when decided. All welcome.

A free workshop for People with HIV, ‘Treatments by the Sea 9’ will be held on Saturday 4 December, 11am to 4.30pm at a local coastal village. Topic for discussion this year is HIV & inflammation: using treatments to minimise inflammation. The event is catered and several expert speakers will present.
