Western Sydney unites

Diva, Diva, Diva. OMG! It’s over for another year.  It was my 15th appearance at the Drag Industry Variety  Awards.  It was nice to receive a nomination – or should I say my sixth nomination for the Queen of Hearts award – considering I won it 13 years ago, I doubt very much that I will ever win one again.  Or will I ever go again?

In 2013 you might see me make an appearance as a drag king.  I discovered as you get to the ripe old age of 45 it gets harder to do drag and hold down a full time job so I did not have as much fun as I did in previous years as I don’t drink or do drugs so I get over it a lot quicker.  It was great to be the only Western Sydney drag queen to be acknowledged, not because I am a great performer but I go out of my way to co-ordinate fund raising events in Western Sydney for great organisations like ACON Western Sydney and The Western Suburbs Haven Inc.

Talking about Western Sydney coming together the final preparations have been put in place for the annual Red Party #2 for World Aids Day at KSD at The Parramatta Golf Club on December 1 with 20 performers, including special guest hosts Sandy Bottom, Crystal Clear and Australia’s Got Talent superstar Laydee Kinmee with live performances by Lisa Crouch and Luke Lynch and many more other fabulous performers.  Three shows $15 on the door all proceeds going directly to ACON Western Sydney.  It is one of the biggest events that take place in Western Sydney.  I am pleased to say that between HSD and KSD we have given over $10,000.00 to Western Sydney charities and hopefully this will continue in 2013 as by now most of you will know we have reduced the amount of dances to one a month in 2013.  The Red Party will be the last dance for 2012.  I am very excited to welcome Ian Stumbles to assist in the co-ordination of KSD and HSD in 2013.  www.kaleidoscopesocialdance.com   www.heavensocialdance.com

In other exciting news, Bottom Productions will present a brand new event as an alternative event on a Sunday afternoon, November 25. Disco on the Green will see four DJs pumping retro and sing along disco tracks on the green with cool beverages and food to cool you off at Canterbury Bowling Club.  It starts at 2.30pm and wraps up about 10pm.  For more information, go to www.discoonthegreen.com

In other news, after 13 years Coming Out Group is looking for people to contribute ideas for a new logo and designs for Canterbury Bankstown District Gay and Lesbian Group. So if you have talent submit your ideas or artwork and you could be responsible for their new logo for 2013. Info at www.comingout.org.au

Drag Gossip

Will I ever learn – probably not.  I have discovered once again my mouth has got me into trouble.  Sometimes you think your friends would do the right thing by you but lately my friends have done the wrong thing by repeating things I have said out of context causing unnecessary drama which could have been avoided. If I only knew earlier that they were not the friends I thought they were.  As the saying goes ” It’s all Karma” what goes around comes around.  With me reducing drag to once a month next year let’s see how many real friends I have .  Also, just for the record, I have recently had to terminate our DJ after three years due to increased costs that we can no longer afford to pay as the social dances I run in Western Sydney are a not for profit social dance with all proceeds after initial costs being donated back to organisations in the West.  It’s just not practical to pay him more so he can pay someone less to make a profit from us.  There’s the facts.  There are no hard feelings we wish him all the best for the future.

Until next time gorgeous,

Love BB www.beverlybuttercup.com
