Where’s the year gone?

Where’s the year gone?

Its just days out, and I still have nothing under my tree. With a list of Christmas shopping as long as my – well, its not that long – and nothing checked off.

But it happens to most of us every year, we get wrapped up in getting everything finished before the year is over and we lose track of time.

But I think time seems to travel a lot faster as we get older and before we know it its tomorrow. It feels like a moment ago I was typing my last article for 2009, now I am sitting here thinking about 2010 and the way it has whizzed past.

And what a year we have had. Personally it has been amazing; I have had to deal with a few hurdles but seem to come out the end happier and stronger than ever.

I was all set to head to the USA with the Sydney Convicts, but three days out was struck down with a terrible case of shingles, which forced me to stop everything.

I am consumed with what I love, which is work and sometimes forget my body needs to rest every now and again.

The shingles was a scary wake up call to listen to my body — to stop and smell the roses. Disappointed I missed the trip; I was soon better and slowly back into work. Before I knew it I was in Singapore hosting Miss Pole Dance Singapore. It didn’t make up for missing out on touring with the Convicts, but it was an amazing experience and am delighted to be returning in 2011.

I got back just in time to host Miss Pole Dance Australia at the Enmore Theatre, where I personally took a leap and wore a totally see-through dress in front of more than 2000 people.

Granted, that was after a very intense gym training schedule, but I did it. I’ve jumped out a plane and dropped my robe for an audience – which I think may have been more terrifying.

But things haven’t just happened to me, the fabulous Vanity Faire has been doing make up for Priscilla in London and New York; the ever beautiful Courtney Act has been touring the US and sailing the seas on the Atlantis cruises. And Trevor Ashley scored the role of a lifetime in Hairspray, Edna Turnblad, and is wowing the toughest critics.

So this is my last “On the Queen’s Throne” for 2010 and I would like to personally thank everyone that has supported and read me over the year or even years. I try each week to bring to you, what I’m thinking or feeling, so this is always a very personal piece.

Some agree, some disagree and many send me a nasty email or four. Either or, I hope I have made you think, smile or even laugh. Merry Christmas and a big kiss to you all.

Love Maxi x

  1. Hey Fruit Punch, I think you are a little confused. My column is a personal piece talking about drag and whats happening in the drag world. The beauty of SSO is that it is full of amazing writers that focus on the LBGTIQ community. (As you referred…..US)
As a personal column, I focus on what I see and my experiences, especially in the Drag World…..And you are right our community doesn’t just consist of DRAG, but it is a part of it, and in my life a huge part.
Thanks for your feedback, I hope this has cleared up the issues you had. A little feedback for you, maybe instead of flipping straight to my column (though I love that you do read me) take time to read some of the other articles in the paper. They are amazing writers and focus on the subjects I think your more interested in.
Merry Christmas and New Year to you also Fruit Punch.

  2. You seem like a nice enough person Maxi

However, I have trouble reading your columns when they so frequently appear to be self promotion of your drag career. Even this wrap up of 2010 is self indulgent and references YOUR thoughts for the year, what happened to YOU, how YOU felt, what YOU did. What about US?

What about what is happening in the rest of the world? I have noticed this with most drag queens who write columns, please do not take it personally. I trust you see this as constructive feedback [if my comments are published] and I trust you have a very lovely Xmas and New Year

There is more to our LBGTIQ lives than the drag scene !
