ACON Northern Rivers is hosting two information sessions for community members who might like to become ACON volunteers.
The sessions will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 10am-noon or 5.30-7pm. Light snacks and refreshments will be available. For more information, please contact Sioux on 02 6622 1555.
Volunteering can change people’s lives and, just as importantly, volunteers assist communities and organisations in the work they do by offering their unique skills and ideas.
The sixth Byron Bay International Film Festival (BBFF) begins on Friday, March 2 and runs until Sunday, March 11. There will be 170 films, 40 sessions and five venues all crammed into this action-packed 10-day festival.
On Thursday, March 8, BBFF teams up with ACON in a world premiere of the film The Skin I’m In. The filmmaker will be in attendance and a percentage of proceeds from the screening will be donated to ACON Northern Rivers.
ACON will also have a presence on the night with resources and volunteers collecting donations.
In The Skin I’m In, a brush with death propels young filmmaker Broderick Fox to navigate an epic and transformational journey marked by the creation of his full back tattoo. The film is both intimate and expansive, travelling from Berlin to
British Columbia, New Jersey to Japan, Kenya to Los Angeles, documenting the collaboration between Fox, Canadian First-Nations artist Rande Cook, and African American tattoo artist Zulu to produce Fox’s full back tattoo.
Now the glitter has settled from NYE, it’s time to prepare for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival. Our local LGBT social club Tropical Fruits is planning a stunning parade entry. If you would like to get involved, call Tropical Fruits on 02 6622 6440 or email email@example.com
And finally, back with a splash, are the fabulous Delicious parties for 2012. The next party is on Saturday, March 24 so pop the date in your dance diary and prepare a funky outfit for this totally queer-friendly party! Delicious is held at Lismore Bowls Club and starts at 9pm.
