Trans magazine to get Lismore launch

There are plenty of activities and events planned for early 2012 in the Northern Rivers of NSW so regardless if you are a resident or a visitor make sure you get out and immerse yourself in something fabulous!

Friends of Dorothy in Lismore is an informal group of older (35+) gay men, but all gay men are welcome to join in. They meet for drinks and dinner at the Lismore Workers Club from 6pm on the first Sunday of every month.

Friends of Dorothy have other events from time to time so please visit their blog: http://lismorefriendsofdorothy.blogspot.com for current information.

The blog includes other events by similar groups in this area. Contact John on 0409 581 315

In mid-February, Lismore will launch the trans male magazine DUDE. This is a Melbourne-based zine presenting queer and trans perspectives on various topics relating to trans guys.

DUDE is a free and not-for-profit creative resource designed to celebrate positive representation of trans guys and to share skills and knowledge within our wider community. I’ve had a read of DUDE and it’s cool, visually stunning and really informative.

It’s not too late to RSVP for the ACON Northern Rivers Gay Men Living with HIV Retreat. This is the 19th fabulous retreat and it’s on from February 24 – 28.

I have attended several retreats and not only are they set in a magnificent location but they are packed with great activities and the most delicious and nutritious food. Sleep in your own camp gear or the comfortable shared bungalow accommodation.

Registration fees are $100 for unwaged and $175 for waged. ACON is able to assist some attendees with financial support to attend this retreat so please contact Neil McKellar-Stewart, HIV Health Promotion Officer before all places are taken.

INFO: For more about groups, services, organisations or events in the Northern Rivers, contact Tobin Saunders at ACON on 02 6622 1555 or [email protected].
