They’ve toured the world playing DJ sets of their own brand of electro-pop at festivals such as IMS in Ibiza, Lollapalooza, Tomorrowland and our very own SummerDayze.
But after a well-established career of spinning tracks and writing hits for Kylie Minogue, Ke$ha and David Guetta, Nervo — twin sisters Mim and Liv — are stepping up to the mic with their new single We’re All No One.
“It was very different from what people know us for. The record didn’t sound like a Nervo record,” Mim said.
“The DJs are loving it — and it gets the most amazing reaction in America when we play it,” Liv said.
After receiving a track created by electro-house musician and producer Steve Aoki, Nervo got to work.
“It was just like a free jam. Aoki sent us a really rough track, it was nothing like it is now really,” Liv said.
The track reached number eight on the ARIA club charts and the Top 10 on the US Billboard dance charts.
Having already worked alongside some of the world’s major artists, Mim and Liv were asked to open for Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale tour, beside Nicki Minaj.
“It was a real eye-opener because we usually play at clubs or festivals, but this was a whole other thing. The production, makeup, hair,” Mim said.
The twins have also had a close friendship with pop singer Ke$ha, having written several songs for her first studio album, Animal, including Boots and Boys and VIP.
“With Ke$ha, it was a really lovely organic story. It was amazing to see the girl we used to share a bed with in LA has all blown up,” Mim said.
“We were all aspiring nobodies, and her story has just been incredible,” Liv said. “I love her and I love that she’s herself.”
The twins’ major moment came when David Guetta received his first Grammy for a mix of their hit song When Love Takes Over.
“That was my freak-out moment. When it went number one I wasn’t really freaking out, but people really care about the Grammys,” Mim said.
Madonna also expressed interest in one of their recent tracks, and while it won’t feature on her new album MDNA, Nervo decided to take the song for themselves.
“She expressed interest in what is now going to be our next single,” Mim said. “We’ve done it with Aviici. What’s not to love about Madonna wanting one of your songs?
“But in the end it’s going to be our next single!”
And it seems Nervo are just getting started, with a new song featuring Steve Aoki and LMFAO being released on Aoki’s new album.
“2011 was an amazing year for us,” Mim said. “I have a feeling 2012 is going to be great.”
