To complete the gruelling challenge of the City to Surf you have to be of the mindset that relishes setting and achieving goals.
For some, those goals strictly pertain to their own physical ability to complete the course but, for others like Ben Peake, the fun run offers the opportunity to achieve a greater goal of providing for the community.
For the second year running, Peake will be donating his sponsorship funds to GLBT youth organisation Twenty10.
“It was part of my goal-setting to take on the City to Surf, but doing more for the community was another goal I’d set myself to achieve,” Peake said.
It was through the City to Surf website, which lists various charities competitors can donate their sponsorship funds to, that Peake first found out about Twenty10. “I wanted to donate to something that was working in my local area and that was specifically for gays and lesbians and that’s how I found Twenty10.”
David Moutou from Twenty10 said the charity was pleased to learn of Peake’s intentions to help them.
“We had a team participate in the City to Surf last year but we’d never met Ben. He had decided to donate his funds to us of his own accord. It’s exciting to us to know that there are people who think of us because we really are only a small organisation.”
