Outgames looking for a home

While the 2nd Asia Pacific Outgames in Wellington may have been a successful celebration of GLBTI participation in sport, organisers are still looking for a home for the next games.

There has been interest from a number of cities but, as yet, no firm proposals.

Both Wellington 2011 and Melbourne 2008 have been volunteer-run and both delivered financial surpluses.

In planning for the future, the Asia Pacific Outgames will host a face-to-face meeting in Melbourne on August 13 and 14. This will be an opportunity to discuss ideas about the event’s future.

Asia Pacific Outgames are held every three to four years and the organisation is developing ideas for an annual human rights conference and Asia Pacific or trans-Tasman sport meets.

Organisers are interested in feedback on this and are also calling for volunteers to help facilitate future events.

Antwerp will host the 3rd World Outgames in 2013 and you can visit their website at: http://woga2013.org
