Volunteering opportunities with the Star Observer
You can be part of our story.
The Star Observer started in 1979, and is one of Australia’s oldest, largest, and most respected LGBTI community not-for-profits. We are a social enterprise dedicated to reporting LGBTI news and inspiring community stories.
Every week we write online news, interview politicians and celebrities, create social media content, attend community events, raise money, and work hard to produce and distribute our portfolio of three national magazines – the Star Observer, Gay Scene Guide, and LUXE. Behind the scenes, we also have people who are focused on keeping our organisation running smoothly.
Our team is made up of a combination of volunteers, freelancers, and a very small number of paid staff. We do not receive any government funding, and all of our proceeds are re-invested back into supporting LGBTI community organisations and projects.
By volunteering with the Star Observer, you can be involved with the most exciting LGBTI community projects and festivals from around Australia.
We also have plenty of opportunities for people who prefer to work from home, or in the evenings. You can also decide to work during standard business hours from our Sydney or Melbourne offices.
