Don’t grin and bear it
There are a swag of parties and fabulous culinary activities as part of this year’s Bear Essentials. But there’s no reason you can’t be a fit and active cub when joining the Harbour City Bears for their festival of fur.
Heading to the Golden Harbour Restaurant for Bear Essentials Yum Cha on February 23? Follow it up with the Blue Mountains Tour on March 1 and walk through the natural wonders of the region while staying active.
Planet Dwellers will once again host the tour. So get involved and get the big Mardi Gras weekend started in sensational style.
The Bears Beach Day and Picnic is a nice combination of food and fun physical activity on February 25.
This year, Harbour City Bears has chosen a particularly pretty patch of coastline for bears to gather by. Bronte Beach is one of the few Sydney beaches in a park setting so this should be a delightful place for a picnic and swim.
It’s BYO food and drinks – and definitely sunscreen.
On the subject of swimming, you can’t go past the Bear Essentials Wet Furr event.
This pool party has to be the most enduring and most consistently popular of all festival activities. It would not be Bear Essentials, or indeed Mardi Gras, without a tsunami of bears and their mates hitting the wave pool at Cook & Phillip Park.
Wet Furr brings you a sea of bears in their boardies, daddies in their speedos and cubs in their togs – unless they find themselves handed about in the hydro pool, at which point they might discover clothing is unexpectedly optional.
On dry land, enjoy a sausage sizzle from the sizzling lads of the Sydney Rangers Football Club with DJ Scottie Lupton on the decks.
