Melbourne’s Sircuit Bar turns red for World AIDS Day

THERE are a plethora of events happening in Melbourne to commemorate World AIDS Day (WAD), but one is set to be a concert with a charitable twist.

VIVA Variety Concert will return for a second year on the eve of WAD, which is organised by Living Positive Victoria (LPV), who support those living with HIV.

Money raised on the night will go towards raising awareness and money towards HIV research.

Turning Sircuit Bar red, the line-up includes live performances by Tro, Raven Boylesque, Dolly Diamond, Meg La Mania and Polly Filla.

With the celebration of WAD underway, the purpose of the concert is to reveal an optimistic change to the stigma attached to people living with HIV.

The UN have made the theme for this year’s WAD as “Getting to Zero”, and LPV are using it as an opportunity to reflect on 2014.

In July, Melbourne played host to the International AIDS Conference, which put a spotlight on HIV and AIDS, especially Australia’s acclaimed response to the virus since the 1980s.

Over 14,000 delegates from around the world attended the conference, making it the largest of its kind in Australian history.

LPV executive officer Brent Allan said: “This year’s WAD is just as important as the last one and we continue to the future with hope.”
