Midsumma favourite Michael Griffiths returns with new cabaret

MICHAEL Griffiths isn’t going to let turning 40 stop his prolonged adolescence.

Join him as he recalls touring in jukebox musicals, falling in love and why he can’t go ten pin bowling.

Written and performed by Griffiths, Adolescent is a self-deprecating hour of song, humour and personal revelation at fortyfivedownstairs from January 21 until February 1 as part of the Midsumma Festival.

His show will feature songs from Jersey Boys, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and lots of his first love: 80s pop music.

“Rather than have a mid-life crisis about turning 40, I figured better to poke fun at myself with a show about why I haven’t quite ‘grown up’ yet,” Griffiths said.

“It’s also a great excuse to sing some of my absolute favourite songs from the 80s, have some laughs at what’s it’s really like working in musical theatre and finding out as an adult about my donor conception quite by accident, all the while behaving like a petulant teenager.”

Griffiths has been nominated for two Green Room awards, Best Cabaret at Perth Fringeworld and won Best Cabaret Adelaide Fringe 2014.

His acclaimed cabaret shows In Vogue: Songs By Madonna and Sweet Dreams: Songs by Annie Lennox have delighted critics and audiences all across Australia and beyond to New York, London, Hong Kong, Auckland and Edinburgh where he received five-star reviews and standing ovations.

Adolescent is showing at fortyfivedownstairs, 45 Flinders Lane, Melbourne from January 21 until February 1. Shows begin 7pm. Tickets and details: www.fortyfivedownstairs.com
