Armin’s state of trance

Armin van Buuren was in Sydney over the long weekend and has just released the two-CD A State of Trance 2009, the sixth instalment in his annual series.

The DJ and producer has been named number one in the prestigious DJ Top 100 poll two years in a row. Despite the label of being the world’s most popular DJ, for van Buuren trance music is about getting into a certain state of mind.
I have been using the themes -˜On the Beach’ and -˜In the Club’, just like previous years. That way I can start out with some more progressive songs, that suit well if you are on the beach with some friends, enjoying the sun and music, he said.
The second CD is more club-orientated, with some pumping tracks and big room trance tunes. I am pretty sure that one will put you in a great party mood.
While van Buuren utilises modern approaches to programming his music, he said he could never choose between DJing or working in the studio.
It is really hard to choose between them, because they are really connected to each other, he said.
While DJing I try out new tracks that I made, to test them. As soon as I hear them I feel like jumping in to the studio straight away to change small things or just to start on something new, and while I am producing I can’t wait to play the tunes out in a club.
So it works two ways really.
In the meantime, van Buuren has just released his new single Fine Without You with Jennifer Rene.
