Daylesford staple reborn

Daylesford staple reborn

Boutique live entertainment venue The Palais, in Hepburn Springs, is set to open its doors again under new management this Queen’s birthday weekend, with plans for new queer-themed events in the coming months.

The iconic venue closed suddenly in December, much to the disappointment of fans. Local café and winery owners Matthew Goodison and his partner Korinna Glen have taken the reins with the intention of restoring the venue to its former glory.

A bi-monthly queer and alternative night is already being organised to appeal to neighbouring Daylesford’s large GLBTI population and tourist base. This will kick off in August.

The Palais was known for hosting some of the best musical acts from Australia and overseas, and the new owners hope to continue that tradition. Working alongside Glen and Goodison will be former Palais booker Emma Ireland (reinstated to the role) and publicist Lou Ridsdale.

The restaurant, run by chef Billy McIldowney, will be open seven days a week and the venue will also specialise in weddings and functions.

The Palais’ opening weekend acts this Friday and Saturday will include Checkerboard Lounge with the Town Bikes and a solo show by Tim Rogers. Tickets are available from www.moshtix.com.au
