Final Film Fest weekend a feast of free events

As the Sydney Film Festival (SFF) draws to a close this weekend, the Festival Hub pop-up venue under Town Hall will go out with a bang! Check out the hub’s final few events over the coming days:

Friday June 15
The Cinema According to Bertolucci, 5-7pm
Screening of Gianni Amelio’s 1976 documentary followed by a discussion with scholar and Italian cinema specialist Dr Andrea Rizzi, hosted by Radio National’s Julie Rigg.

Interactive Storytelling: The Shape of Things to Come, 7-8.30pm

New digital technologies are transforming the way content producers are writing, producing and delivering new work, opening up exciting opportunities for interactive storytelling. Get the lowdown on the latest trends and sneak a peek at some truly groundbreaking work.

Cambodian Psych-Out Party, 8.30-10pm
To celebrate the Australian premiere of Golden Slumbers, filmmaker Davy Chou and film critic and SFF Freak Me Out programmer Richard Kuipers take turns on the decks. Expect psychedelic and highly danceable classic Khmer rock and pop from the ’60s and ’70s.

Saturday June 16
The Future of the Cinema Experience, 7-8.30pm
Will cinemas go the way of the video store? Will our attention span shrink along with the size of screens? Will 3D, 4D or 48fps save the cinema experience? Join our panel of film buffs and practitioners as we explore the evolving ways in which we view, experience, share and discuss cinema.

Keanu, Angelina and Denzel Walk Into a Bar, 8.30-10pm
Sydney’s top comics take turns on the mic, delivering hilarious tales inspired by cinema, festivals, movie stars and the glamour of working as an extra. The line-up has just been announced: MC Darren Sanders, Dain Hedgpeth, Damian Smith, Rebecca De Unamuno, Seizure Kaiser and headlining is Gary Eck.

Sunday June 17
Introducing the Dendy Awards Short-Filmmakers, 2-4pm
Metro Screen presents a panel discussion featuring the diverse group of Dendy Awards finalists, who will share their experiences and discuss current trends at the vanguard of Australia’s short-film industry.

SFF Documentary Shorts, 4-6pm
If you missed the shorts screening before SFF’s features, pop in during the repeat screenings in the Hub.
