He’s no faker

Chunky Move dance company founder Gideon Obarzanek (pictured) is set to lay his performance anxieties bare in a new autobiographical solo dance work — Faker — next month. With remarkable candour, Obarzanek’s piece is set around his reflections of an exchange with a younger dancer who is critical of his mentorship.

Playing the dual role of choreographer and questioning protégé, Obarzanek tackles the fragility of the creative process and those who produce it. Faker is part of Dance Massive 2011 festival and will show at the Beckett Theatre at the Malthouse from March 11 – 20.
