Ladyboyz frock up for Tex

Ladyboyz frock up for Tex

For all of his hard-drinkin’, ultra-macho ways, Tex Perkins has always been something of a gay-friendly Aussie rocker.

His Paul Mac collaboration from a few years back, Heatseeking Pleasure Machine, is testament to that -” it being a grinding electro rocker about gay lust on the dancefloor.

Now, the queer-friendly -” and ultra-sexy, if you like a bit of rough -” Perkins is touring the country with his newest band, The Ladyboyz, which conjures up images of Tex travelling our wide brown land with a troupe of effete Thai boyz in tow. Sadly, Perkins’ backing band are a crew of fairly anonymous-looking rock dogs.

Tex & His Ladyboyz’s album of rock covers, No. 1’s & No. 2‘s (you there, in the back -” stop sniggering!) includes such classics as Hungry Eyes, Three Times A Lady and I’m Not In Love.

It also features duets with two queens of Australian rock, Adalita from Magic Dirt and Susie DeMarchi, formerly of Baby Animals.

Fitting, then, that The Ladyboyz Australian tour should see them supported by a couple more queens.
The ‘boyz Sydney show, at Star City Casino, will include support from gender illusionists Amelia Airhead and Minnie Cooper, two of Australia’s best drag queens.

Both are previous holders of the coveted Entertainer of the Year award at the Drag Industry Variety Awards (DIVA Awards), and have been wowing Australia’s punters for several decades, performing in pubs, clubs, palaces and backyards.

Prepare to be entertained every step of the way as Amelia Airhead and Minnie Cooper bring you a show-stopping jaw-dropping floor show with the very best miming, glitter lipstick, platform heels and everything in between, promises Perkins with breathless excitement, possibly revealing some latent yearnings of his own outside the strict confines of Aussie rock.

Expect his next reinvention to include a sparkling ballgown, a full face of makeup and a faithful interpretation of the ABBA songbook … possibly.
