Best of Mardi Gras Film Festival to screen at Riverside Threatre Parramatta

THE Mardi Gras Film Festival is bringing a collection of this year’s best films to Sydney’s western suburbs next week.
The films, which were among the favourites at this year’s festival, include two foreign-language films and one film made in Australia.
The mini-festival, to be held at the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta, starts on Friday, April 1 with Australian documentary Remembering The Man.
In 2015 Australian audiences experienced Holding The Man, a heartbreaking film based on the 1995 book by Timothy Conigrave. Remembering The Man is a bittersweet documentary drawing upon Conigrave’s memoirs, as well as interviews with his friends and family, to look squarely at the story in the context of the AIDS crisis.
On Saturday April 2, the Mardi Gras Film Festival is screening the Columbian film The Firefly, about a woman who finds herself drawn to her late brother’s fiancée and her navigation of the love that grows between them.
Also on April 2, Riverside Parramatta screens Chemsex, a Vice documentary about drug use in the London gay scene.
The documentary is an honest and no-holds-barred look into the lives of men who mix sex and drugs.
In the vein of Blue Is The Warmest Colour, Barash chronicles the explorations of young queer women in modern Israel.
The film, which screens on April 3, follows Naama who is introduced to lesbian clubs, drugs, and girls by Dana.
Meanwhile on Sunday, April 3 Front Cover will explore sexuality in China and the US.
Ryan is a gay Chinese-American who begins work with Ning, a closeted Chinese actor.
