Mardi Gras outside the square

World Square will be a focal point for celebrations for this year’s Sydney Mardi Gras, with the CBD shopping hub hosting a colourful array of activities.

From the limited edition Anthems for Mardi Gras CD, to the exclusive home of the Mardi Gras LiveSite – the ever changing slideshow, you will be inspired to come out and enjoy.

The Past Parade Costume Exhibition runs throughout the Centre from February 15th to March 7th, and will feature 10 fabulous costumes that showcase the colour, creativity and vibrancy of the parade that is seen by over half a million Sydneysiders and tourists each year.

The exclusive, limited edition World Square Anthems for Mardi Gras Compilation Music CD is designed to get you into the party mood with six dance tracks, including a tune by DJ Carl Cox.

The CD, valued at over $10, is free with purchases of $100 or more from participating retailers. You can also obtain the CD by making a donation to The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation at the counter of participating World Square stores.

World Square is also holding a three-day sale from Wednesday, February 24 which will provide customers with a great opportunity to source their Mardi Gras outfit with a wide selection of fashion and accessories available.

“During the three-day sale, customers will be inspired by 10 costumes on display supplied by New Mardi Gras. The spectacular exhibition will be in Centre for the entire sale period for everyone to enjoy,” centre manager Janette van Straten said.

World Square is the exclusive home of the Mardi Gras’ ever changing slideshow. Displayed on a large 3 x 4 metre LED screen, the slideshow features outstanding photos from the official Mardi Gras photographic team.

“We are really excited that we have been asked by New Mardi Gras to be the official photographic team. Emerging photographers were competitively chosen to be mentored and form part of the official team. We are very pleased that World Square is the central gathering space for those who want to experience the vibrancy of Mardi Gras 2010” McG Photographic’s Robert McGrath said.

The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation is World Square’s preferred charity and is Australia’s longest-running HIV charity. Established by a dedicated group of Bobby Goldsmith’s friends in 1984, the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation has helped thousands of men, women and children living with HIV over the past 26 years.

“Supporting this charity has been very important to World Square and we are proud to assist the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation in any way we can. With the help of the local community and visitors to the Centre during Mardi Gras, we aim to contribute significantly to the foundation,” van Straten said.

Specially branded Mardi Gras merchandise and donation bins will be located at selected participating retailers.
