The other L Word

New E! Channel ‘soapumentary’ The Real L Word follows the social lives of six gorgeous Los Angeles lesbians, and while it might not be ‘reality’ as most of Australia’s gay girls know it, it sure is fun to watch.

One of the glamorous ladies, film executive Tracy, told the Star Observer she has high hopes for what her appearance on the show could achieve.

“I’d love to break stereotypes,” she said. “If I can help somebody come out to their parents I’m more than happy to do that. If I can become a role model to somebody and show them they can achieve anything they want to, reach for the stars and become a producer and do this and do that — I’m all for it.”

Tracy was something of a late bloomer, only coming out in her mid-20s, and is still dealing with her family’s struggles to accept her sexuality.

“My mum was not OK with me coming out. She’s getting there. So I think in the back of my mind, subconsciously, I thought by doing the show our talks about my relationship will progress faster than they would have, so it’s actually worked,” she said.

As a film executive, Tracy was more used to being behind the scenes, and admitted to some early jitters when the cameras started rolling.

“The first week was hard. I was a little more rigid, a little more aware of my surroundings and on top of it I had a huge doctor’s appointment and I was waiting to hear about my thyroid. So being nervous about that and then starting the shoot was a lot.

“I was like ‘Oh boy, what did I sign up for’!”
