Gay marriage or a commitment ceremony

Gay marriage or a commitment ceremony

With a surge in media comment about legislation to end discrimination against same-sex couples, civil celebrant David Schneider has received a significant increase in enquiries with couples asking how it will affect them.

“Committing to one another is a personal thing, where a couple show their commitment to one another in front of their friends and family,” Schneider said.

“Everyone, whether straight or gay, should have the right to a marriage ceremony. It’s a day the couples will remember and cherish — their day of togetherness.”

GayCeremonies.com.au was launched to cater for the gay community, and to guide couples or people who need answers to their questions with knowledgeable assistance.

Schneider said although cohabiting same-sex couples are recognised as de facto couples, with the same rights as cohabiting heterosexual couples under state law, and same-sex couples have access to domestic partnership registries in New South Wales, Tasmania and Victoria, and civil partnerships in the Australian Capital Territory, many couples want the full recognition of a marriage.

GayCeremonies.com.au runs a professional service for couples who want their ceremonies catered for by a celebrant who puts in 110 percent. As a celebrant, Schneider’s enthusiasm has helped many couples on their beautiful and memorable days. He offers a personal service from the first meeting to the rehearsal and the memorable day.

“As a long-term supporter of gay and lesbian issues in the community, I am keen to always focus on gay commitment ceremonies better than other celebrants in the wider community who don’t really understand the needs of our gay and lesbian community,” he said.

Schneider already has many couples registering their interest with him to perform a marriage ceremony once legislation is enacted.
