GLOBE’s gift of giving

It’s often difficult for community organisations to eke out an existence on limited funding, but Melbourne’s Gay and Lesbian Organisation of Business Enterprise (GLOBE) is once again lending a helping hand.

GLOBE’s annual community grants program is now calling for applicants from local GLBTI community groups to apply for grants up to $1000.

GLOBE spokeswoman Michaela Skelly said anyone can apply.

“We leave that open and it goes to a selection panel, so we’ve given grants to many things in the past, from theatre events to sporting events,” Skelly said.

Past recipients of the GLOBE Community Grants include the HIV division of the Royal District Nursing Service, the Victorian AIDS Council and the Gay and Lesbian Switchboard.

The money is raised through GLOBE’s monthly get-togethers where raffles are held, with prizes donated from Melbourne GLBTI radio station JOY94.9.

Grant applications close June 30 and the recipients will be announced at the GLOBE Annual General Meeting in August.
