Time for queer youth to Camp Out
The second annual Camp Out for GLBTI teens aged 13 to 17 years is on September 26 to October 1 at a private camping ground north of Sydney.
Activities include photography, recording your own music, art and animation, vegetarian and vegan cooking, stencil-making, patches, badge making, zines, performance and dance.
Camp Out will also feature workshops on identity, coping with homophobia and transphobia, coming out, what it means to be queer-identified or questioning, and how to become a GLBTI ally.
Camp Out is the only event of its kind in Australia and aims to address barriers that GLBTI young people experience in accessing appropriate services, events and opportunities to participate.
It seeks to empower campers through peer interaction and to provide a space for social networking and peer support. All crew members undergo conduct and care training through Twenty10.
Camp Out is also a drug, tobacco and alcohol free event and each sleeping cabin at the camp will be supervised by a Camp Out crew member.
