A time to reflect

A time to reflect

In what seems to be a sprint to the finish toward the end of the year, things are beginning to wrap up as people look forward to holidays.
However, don’t switch off yet! There are still lots of things to look forward to and get involved with before the silly season picks us up and dumps everyone into January.
Most significantly, December is a time of remembrance and reflection about the ways in which HIV has touched all our lives and brought us to where we are today. It is a time to dig deep, to support friends and loved ones, and to donate to ensure vital HIV and prevention work can continue in the future.
In the Illawarra on Wednesday November 25 we will host an ACON Open Day from 10am to 4pm, a community BBQ at 5pm, followed by a World AIDS Day memorial gathering at 6.30pm. After the memorial we will launch The Red Room, our new community space facility, where we will screen a movie for those who would like to stay and chill out.
On Thursday November 26, Transit, a film about people living with HIV/AIDS, is screening at the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre at 7.30pm. Gold coin donation.
On World AIDS Day, Monday December 1, come find us selling Red Ribbons at Crown St Mall in Wollongong. Please help out by donating and volunteering to sell ribbons. Volunteers are needed from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Contact Michael on 4226 1163 about your availability.
Client satisfaction survey time is also here again. Please help us to make our services relevant to you by picking up a survey from the office and giving us feedback on our services.
On a related note, before I sign off for another month, I would like to thank all those who filled out and participated in making the first Regional Gay Community Periodic Survey a success. Your input will be invaluable in ensuring that we can continue to build healthy communities into the future.
Have fun and play safe.
