Aston – self-titled

Popera and nu-classical groups have been reworking pop songs for some time now – Il Divo recasting Toni Braxton’s Unbreak My Heart as a dramatic Italian opera song was a particularly hilarious highlight of the genre. But with their song choices, Australian instrumental classical sextet Aston veer on parody: Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s Telephone, Rihanna’s Rude Boy, La Roux’s Bulletproof. They don’t sound quite so incongruous when they choose songs that already have an element of orchestral melodrama to them, like their solid take on Kylie’s Confide In Me.
