Brisbane Pride Festival shines

The biggest day of the Brisbane Pride Festival went off with flying rainbow colours last Sunday as thousands rallied, marched and celebrated at Fair Day.

The day started early in the morning at the Wickham Hotel where hundreds representing all sectors of the LGBTI community rallied and heard rousing speeches from several speakers.

Dr Wendell Rosevear, the Queensland doctor and HIV/AIDS expert who recently resigned from a government HIV committee, spoke of love being the most powerful motivator and that forces acting against the LGBTI community were using fear.

“While fear is powerful, love is more powerful and that our love is not a threat to anybody. But hatred is,” he said.

The rally took to the street as hundreds marched down towards Perry Park for Fair Day, which attracted thousands of attendees who were entertained by a line-up of entertainers including Katie Noonan and Sarah McLeod.
