k.d. gets awards nod

k.d. lang has been nominated for Single of the Year at the Juno Awards, which are Canada’s answer to the Grammys.

The iconic lesbian, who already has eight Juno awards on her resume, is nominated for the stunning live version of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah she performed at last year’s Vancouver Winter Olympic Games ceremony.

Lang’s interpretation of Hallelujah (below) has long been a highlight of her live sets and even received the seal of approval from the song’s legendary composer.

It looks like another busy year for the singer – in addition to her Juno nod and touring commitments, she is planning to release an album with her new band The Siss Boom Bang.

Sing It Loud, her first album as part of a band in over 20 years, hits stores on April 12 with lead single I Confess scheduled to hit radio in the not too distant future.
