US Biggest Loser trainer comes out as gay
THE tattooed, bearded trainer on the American version of The Biggest Loser has publicly come out as gay after nearly a decade of appearing on TV.
Bob Harper, 48, got personal on the NBC program while he tried to encourage gay contestant Bobby Saleem, who had trepidation about coming out to his father.
“I haven’t talked about my sexuality on the show – ever,” Harper told the audience, as reported on Gay Star News.
“Now meeting Bobby, I really do believe this is the right time. I want to show Bobby that he doesn’t have to live in shame.
“I totally get it – I’m gay.
“I think that when I came out, when I was 17 years old, it was one of those kind of things where I realised there were so many obstacles. But being gay doesn’t mean being weak; being gay doesn’t mean that you are less than anybody else. It’s just who you are.”
