Cologne put in reach of all sports fans

German flight operators Lufthansa have announced specially priced deals for Australian participants wanting to travel to the Cologne Gay Games in 2010.
The announcement came at a special presentation on the Games held last Saturday March 21, hosted by Federation of Gay Games representative Philipp Lishke.
Dozens of keen sportspeople from the Team Sydney camp crowded into Kinselas to learn more about Cologne’s bustling gay and lesbian scene and the types of sporting and cultural events planned over the Gay Games period from July 31 2010.
Introducing Sydneysiders to the city of Cologne, its gay hotspots and its cultural heritage will encourage many to experience the Gay Games in 2010 for the first time, said Team Sydney spokesman Wally Salinger.
Forty-five people, including six who have been to all of most of the Gay Games, were a captive audience and it was easy to feel the rising tide of enthusiasm for the event as accommodation, transportation and sporting schedules, registration costs and special deals were all carefully explained.
For the sporting clubs who have been furiously saving and fundraising to afford the venture, the most exciting part of the presentation was news that Lufthansa would be providing one-off deals to help participants get to Cologne.
Special airfares to Frankfurt will be offered at $1610, including a stopover and optional flight to a European city. Gay Games-goers would then be able to get to Cologne, one hour from Frankfurt, via the InterCity Express train service.
